Prooface is Sumsub’s in-house liveness technology which easily detects spoofing attempts while authenticating real users in seconds.

  • What is a 3D liveness check?

    By definition, a 3D facial liveness detection check (or liveliness check) is a part of the digital ID authentication process. Through this active check, the system takes a number of selfie photos and validates the user and determines if it’s a real person or a passive fake. It’s often a part of a larger KYC verification process, also matching the user’s authentication data against existing profiles as well.

  • How do you check liveness?

    A liveness detection check for face recognition can be performed within the verification suite’s interface, which is embeddable into other apps. It can be performed via webcam, smartphone, and other camera-equipped devices. Usually, all you need to do is move your head around while the system takes a number of photos (instead of a video) and analyzes each one for signs of spoofing.

  • What are the algorithms used for face detection?

    There are many different liveness solutions on the market, each with its own set of features and underlying technology. These algorithms can be extremely complex, and analyze separate details of the face, look for distortions, and use AI to process vast amounts of data to determine spoofing attempts. In the case of Sumsub, we have our own in-house technology we use in Prooface, our best liveness product.

    Spoofing is an act of substituting a real person based on a machinated fake, such as a mask or a screen with a photograph of another person. There are many different spoofing methods, and spoofing detection is designed to render them all ineffective.
