Padova · since 1968

Hand-cut, slowly, by name.

A third-generation cutting room on Via dei Martiri, making four suits a week for clients we answer to on the telephone. Every commission begins with a single conversation at this bench.

The Studio

Three generations on the same bench.

The studio was opened in 1968 by Vettor Pisani Sr., in a single room above a stationer's shop on Via dei Martiri. His son cut alongside him for nineteen years before handing the shears to his own son in 2003. Vettor Pisani III — trained under the last head cutter of Brioni's Roma line — now leads the work, with one master cutter, two tailors, one shirt-maker, one finisher, and one client director.

We have never moved the bench. The cloth drawers above it were built for Sr.'s shoulders and remain where he hung them. We make fewer than two hundred suits a year, hand-pad stitched on every canvas, with no fused interlining in the building — a practice retained by fewer than thirty ateliers in Italy.

Fifty-seven years of continuous cutting.

The Commission

A measured four-step process.

An unhurried nine weeks from first meeting to finished garment. We document every measurement, every fitting note, and every cloth choice against your file, so a second commission — a decade later — begins exactly where the first left off.

  1. I

    Consultation

A private appointment at the atelier, by prior arrangement only. We discuss the garment's purpose, study your existing wardrobe, take fourteen body measurements by hand, and begin pulling cloths from the archive. Ninety minutes, never rushed.

  2. II

    Drafting & Cloth Selection

From your paper pattern — drafted fresh, not pulled from a stock block — to a final cloth chosen against your skin tone and intended use. You return to approve the lapel shape, pocket style, and lining before shears touch fabric.

  3. III

    Basted Fitting

The garment is assembled in a temporary, hand-basted state — sleeves unset, canvas floating — and you return for the first on-body fitting. Adjustments are marked directly onto the cloth in chalk. Most clients require at least two fittings.

  4. IV

    Finishing & Delivery

The suit is finished by hand at the bench: buttonholes cut and worked, collar pad-stitched, lining closed by hand, hem shaped on the wearer. Delivered in a canvas carrier with a written record of every construction detail, guaranteed for life.

L'Uomo Vogue · April 2022 · "The New Hands of Padova"

  • "Pisani's bench produces fewer than two hundred suits a year, and the waiting list is its own form of measurement."

  • "Among the small list of Italian ateliers still pad-stitching every canvas by hand, Vettor Pisani is the one to know."
